Active Engine Mounts / Active Absorbers

Innovative engine mount technologies are needed to meet the high comfort expectations of future vehicles. ContiTech is working on solutions in the form of active systems for noise and vibration control. Ongoing projects focus on the development of actuators and control systems for active engine mounts and active absorbers.

At the core of the active system there is an electronic control device on which the control algorithms can be implemented. The active system boasts the following characteristics:

• Compensation of stochastic and deterministic (periodic) excitation
• Effectiveness across a wide frequency range (20 - 400+ Hz)
• Automatic tuning function
• Possibility of triggering several actuators for the suppression of vibration at various positions

Possibility, for instance, of compensating the vibrations introduced into the chassis via the engine mount (by using an active absorber system).

This can contribute to an improvement in riding comfort in cars with three-cylinder engines or vehicles with cylinder deactivation.
