Systems for Exhaust Gas Aftertreatment
in Diesel Vehicles
The Background:
In recent years, diesel engines have gained widespread acceptance as a power source offering substantial economic benefits and performance efficiency. But despite today's highly sophisticated engine technology, diesel engines continue to attract criticism on account of their polluting emissions. Although CO2 emission level is about 20% lower than that of petrol engines, diesel engines without particulate filter systems still pose significant environmental and health risks. In order to meet EURO 4 emission requirements, the level of particles emitted from diesel engines may not exceed 0.025 g/km. And EURO 5, the next generation of standards expected to specify a general requirement for particulate filters.
The Process:
Some of the present filter systems make use of the fuel available in the vehicle for regeneration via a diesel fuel burner. The filters are cleansed of particles once a certain flow resistance or counterpressure to the exhaust-gas flow is attained.
The Hose Technology:
The filter is regenerated by adding oxygen via the side channel blower. The trapped particulates are completely burned off, leaving no residue, i.e. all the particulates as well as hydrocarbon deposits on them are converted into CO2 and water vapor. Fluid Technology develops and manufactures hoses and hose lines for transporting the air in this system. The hoses and hose lines also form the interface between the diesel particulate filter and the control unit.
The Benefits:
- Wide variety of materials and material combinations for resistance to a constant high-temperature environment
- Material approvals from virtually all OEMs
- High vacuum stability
- Hose IDs from 3.5 mm (on request) to 9.3 mm
- Extremely tight bend radii possible
