Rubber expansion joints were originally developed for the shipbuilding industry in the 1950s. Since then the further development and optimization of the articles has proceeded in consistent fashion so that they are not a fixed component of ship assembly production. They suppress the vibration and noise generated by motors, pumps and generators on board and allow for easy installation of piping components. The parts manufactured by ContiTech have been awarded a number of certificates recognized in this area.
