Techtextil India 2011: High-Tech Materials Enhance Safety
Hanover, September 2011. Innovative materials from ContiTech offer protection and comfort.
Whether coated fabrics for protective suits, life raft material or buoyancy tubes, ContiTech AG will be demonstrating the versatility of technical textiles by showcasing its entire product portfolio at this year’s Techtextil India, which runs from October 10 to 12 in Mumbai.
On its stand (D 35) in the German Pavilion, ContiTech Elastomer Coatings will be presenting this highly successful material for personal protective gear which, thanks to the ContiBarrierSystem®, is safer, lighter and more comfortable than ever before. When used in chemical protection suits, this enhanced material design offers much greater protection from chemicals and gases. The barrier layer effectively stops hazardous substances such as chlorine, chlorinated hydrocarbons and ammonia. High resistance to acids, lye and aggressive chemicals, together with excellent tear resistance, ensures maximum protection for the wearer. “Absolute reliability like this gives it a major edge over conventional materials as well as over the disposable suits in general use,” notes Thomas Weber, ContiTech product manager. “Our personal protection suits provide many years of use.” The new design and optimized state-of-the-art materials make this material around 30% lighter and, as a result, considerably more flexible and thinner than previous materials. This not only makes processing easier and piecing more economical, but also makes the clothes more comfortable to wear with personnel less restricted in their movements and able to keep working for longer. These are arguments that have already won over leading manufacturers of protective suits worldwide.

The company is also demonstrating its competence in the area of life raft and boat material. Thanks to long-standing and intensive customer and market support, customers the world over have been won over by the benefits of this natural rubber material from ContiTech.
The enhanced and patented silicon concertina wall material will also be on show. This technical material, which can be used to form a flexible connection in buses, rail vehicles and jetways, demonstrates outstanding fire resistance, particularly with regard to smoke gas density and toxicity. It is resistant to environmental influences such as UV radiation, water, salt, gasoline, oil and flying gravel and, being absolutely crackproof, flexible and weatherproof from -40C to +120C, it can withstand extreme mechanical loads.
