Production Capacity Doubled
August 2010Largest expansion in company’s history: ContiTech Thermopol taps new markets.
Hose specialist ContiTech Thermopol is expanding its production area in Somersworth, USA. The company is constructing a further production building and doubling its production capacity on a 3,600 m2 area. ContiTech is investing €3.7 million in the expansion, which will create 80 additional jobs. It currently has a workforce of 140 at its 8.1 acre (3.3-hectare) plant.
Up to now, the plant has manufactured silicone hoses for manufacturers of automobiles and heavy duty trucks, for the food and pharmaceutical industry, and for other industrial applications. In the future, extruded turbocharger hoses will be produced and SCR hose line systems for exhaust gas cleaning in diesel engines will be assembled here as well, which accords with the growing environmental awareness in the US. Manufacturers want to produce vehicles whose performance and energy efficiency go further towards meeting the buyers’ expectations than has previously been the case, and turbochargers for diesel and gasoline engines play an important role here. “Thanks to new technologies, we can offer our customers the high-quality hoses they need from local production,” stresses Ed Cotter, managing director of ContiTech Thermopol.
With Ford and Cummins, it has already been possible to win over America’s most successful carmaker at present and the world’s largest manufacturer of diesel engines as customers for the new products. Production in the new facilities should get started by December.
