Profitable even in difficult times
Despite the global economic crisis, ContiTech was profitable in 2009, once again posting a double-digit EBIT before restructuring, and €169.4 million (PY: €329.1 million) after restructuring.
Sales amounted to €2.4 billion, down from €3 billion the previous year mainly as a result of lower sales volumes. With a 23.1 % drop in sales, the automotive original equipment operations in particular contributed to this decline. Sales in the industrial sector fell 18.8 %. In contrast, sales to the automotive replacement market were up 7.2 %.
ContiTech invested €83 million (PY: €111 million), with capital expenditure amounting to 3.4 %, nearly on par with 2008 (3.7 %).
The number of employees rose by about 400 from 21,680 in 2008 to 22,079 on December 31, 2009.
